Isoform-specific p53 biology

We define how distinct p53 protein isoforms divide transactivation, transrepression and germline functions.

A single p53 locus can generate protein isoforms with different regulatory capacities. Isoform-specific knockouts in Drosophila allow the laboratory to separate functions that are dispensable for stress-induced activation from those required for constitutive repression and proper germ-cell development.

The group is extending this isoform lens to conserved mechanisms relevant to mammalian tumor suppression and cancer-associated disruption.
